I booked this hotel for 3 nights from Tue-Fri April 30-May 3 2024. While passing through the city transitioning from Amtrak to the airport.
Those nights totaled an average of $128.38 each after tax and all charges. The Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center has an Expedia rating of 8.6 from 1,751 reviews. Check the Expedia rates for your dates.
I chose this hotel because it was among the least expensive Hilton properties at the time and walkable from the train station.
Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center Location
Unsurprisingly, this hotel is very close to the cityโs large convention center, making it an outstanding choice as a convention hotel. The location is also very close to the port of New Orleans and cruise passengers will find it convenient for embarking and disembarking.
If your trip doesnโt fit one of those two categories you might not enjoy the location at all.

The Warehouse district is full of historical warehouse buildings dating from a time when the shipping industry was very different than what it is today. The area is now an arts district and many of the warehouses have been converted to lofts and apartments. While you can walk to the French Quarter without too much trouble or take the streetcar, the location is generally not convenient. Most people who wish to stay in the CBD will want to be closer to Poydras Street.
Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center Property
This is a pretty large hotel and was built as a hotel, not converted from a historical building. So it feels very modern and comfortable with everything designed the way you would expect it to be.

The lobby is large and features a snack shop, business center, and restaurant serving breakfast (for a fee) and dinner. There’s ample convention and meeting space at the property and highlights include the rooftop pool and decent gymnasium.
Parking at this hotel is $48 a night which is steep and consistent with other city Hilton properties. However there is free street parking very close to this hotel and if you’re traveling with a car this could be the best location for you.
Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center Guest Rooms

My room featured a large and comfortable wingback chair and ottoman which is standard for this brand. Larger rooms can feature a fold out sofa bed, or the sofa and chair. Bathroom was great to use with no problems at all.
About The Warehouse District
Thereโs no getting around the fact that this location is inconvenient for the typical New Orleans visitor. Still, itโs not all bad. Staying here means youโre committing to significant extra walking but if you donโt mind that it has its advantages as well.
If you start walking west youโll cross under the interstate immediately and be in the Garden District on Magazine Street. If you stick by the river you can take the shortest route to the French Quarter. The Saint Charles Avenue Streetcar is only a few blocks from the hotel and you can board it at Lee Circle.

The Warehouse District isnโt without its own charms and is mostly clean and quiet making it pleasant to walk through. There arenโt a ton of restaurants and amenities here but there are a few, and theyโre every bit as authentic and charming as bars and restaurants anywhere else in the city.

Bottom Line
The Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center is much nicer than the location in the CBD (review). However I did slightly prefer the Hampton Inn Convention Center which is in the next block from this hotel. The quality is very high at both properties but offering free breakfast is a big advantage at the Hampton. (review)
Of course it all comes down to price. The $128 I paid on this stay is about average but a 1-king room here can range from about $90-300 a night so it’s a wide swing depending on when you book.
If you don’t need to be super close to the French Quarter, have a car, or maybe it’s not your first time in the city this hotel is great choice. Check the Expedia rates for your dates and see if it works for you.
