Embarking on a Life of Travel
After the Pandemic I wanted to start traveling more. At the time I started reading more travel blogs. Unfortunately most of them all resemble one another and aren’t very good. The most interesting thing I found at the time was a few mentions of people who’d found a way to accomplish full time hotel living.
Not couch surfing. Not hostels. Not Airbnb’s. Actually doing full time hotel living. It’s such a wild idea I thought only someone like Howard Hughes or Little Richard could truly pull it off.
After crunching the numbers I decided that not only was it possible, but I would likely save significant money while traveling the world. Previously every hotel night was in addition to rent. Now, they are the rent.

Starting a Full Time Hotel Living Site
Unfortunately there’s barely any information online about full time hotel living. Digital nomads typically don’t use hotels consistently. Influencers are no help at all. The points and miles blogs too often focus on high-end redemptions and don’t feature much that’s helpful about day to day living. What little there is on YouTube is mostly geared toward retirees.
If I’m going to be one of the few people doing full time hotel living, I might as well start a site of my own to document it. If you’re interested in the lifestyle I suggest starting with the Cost Update tag to see real data about what my average costs have been and what real world points earning and burning looks like for full time hotel living.
Where’s the Ice Machine is a hobby for me. I’m not depending on it for income so I’m not compelled to make content for content’s sake. I’m not being paid by hotel brands or given free trips for review. The travel blogging niche is overcrowded but I do believe there’s always room for more honest and unfiltered voices describing interesting ways to travel. I’m glad you’re here and hope you’ll follow along.
