Hotels on the island of Bali really run the gamut from the top of the ultra-luxury market to rooms that are extremely cheap. Some are so cheap you’ll need to double check to make sure you didn’t just book a hostel. The Kuta Beach Hotel falls into the latter category. My stay came in at less than $20 per night. But at such a low rate can the hotel really be any good? Read on to find out and check current prices on Expedia.

Kuta Beach Hotel Location
Although it may not look that way on a map, Bali is a very large island. Whether Kuta Beach is the best option for a visit to the island is covered in detail here. Assuming you’ve decided you do want to stay in Kuta, the location of Kuta Beach Hotel is outstanding. When choosing a hotel you will want to be very near the beach. You’ll regret the walk back and forth if you choose a place that is even a little bit inland.
The Kuta Beach Hotel is only one short block off the beach. There’s only one other property standing between it and the beach road. Hotels located directly on the beach road will price out at $10-25 more per night. That is still inexpensive but it’s worth knowing that all of the hotels are set back across the street. A long line of trees on the beach means you may not have a very good view of the sea, even if your room is specifically offered as ‘ocean view’.
Aside from being near the beach the Kuta Beach Hotel has plenty of convenience stores, restaurants and bar options very nearby. It may be difficult to take a Grab car directly to and from the hotel. Getting dropped off or picked up around the corner on the beach road is seamless. Motorbikes are available to rent, and Grab cars are so inexpensive that you can reach much of the southern part of the island easily from this location. Even a 60 minute ride into Ubud is only around $20 USD each way.
Kuta Beach Hotel Property
The hotel is not large. The ground floor is open to the street on all sides and is dominated by the restaurant, which is mostly just there to serve breakfast. The front desk and lobby area is rather small.
The hotel is designed in such a way that the hallways are technically outdoors. Thus management is not paying to air condition them. The basic room that I booked was actually an interior room, although it did feature a window and overall this design and being in the interior did not bother me as much as it might have at a different property where the rooms are truly interior.
The best part about this hotel is definitely the pool on the rooftop. Similar to the April Suites Pattaya, it’s a modern overflowing design. There are views of the ocean on one side and the maze of orange rooftops in Kuta on the other. The pool area was not busy during my stay. The pool has comfortable loungers. There’s a cabana-like area that’s free on a first come first served basis. A pair of restrooms and a bar/restaurant area round out the rooftop area. this is a place you could hang out all day. After a few days of dealing with the locals along Kuta Beach I actually preferred relaxing in this area to even leaving the hotel. It is shocking how nice the area is for such a low room rate.
Kuta Beach Hotel Guest Rooms
As mentioned above I booked the most basic room type and found it to be very comfortable throughout my stay. The desk chair provided the only seating aside from the bed but an included ottoman made it fairly comfortable to sit on.
Overall the vibe in this hotel is: You got your own room in Aunt Shelley’s beach house on the Jersey Shore. That’s exactly what it feels like… a bedroom in a beach house. That’s a nice feeling when you are actually at the beach. For a room that costs less than $20 USD you really can’t ask for anything more than you get here.
Overall Impression
Loved the room, loved the pool, loved the location. I should even add a kind word about the staff, who were very cool. The locals in Kuta harass visitors constantly. They always want to sell you drugs or hustle you into a cab. The staff here mostly just stay out of your way, which is very much appreciated. If you need attention they are friendly and will help you. But overall being left alone and relaxing in the hotel goes a long way toward maintaining your peace of mind.
