Hong Kong is a huge city With a full range of hotel options. Fortunately for American travelers, US Chains have a strong foothold here with a range of brands at price levels from $50 to over $500 USD per night.
If you’re searching for a Hong Kong hotel a US chain brand is the easiest way to know exactly what to expect. And among those brands Holiday Inn Express is among the most consistent worldwide.

Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay Location
Most visitors to Hong Kong are going to want to stay on either the Tsuen Wan Line or the Island Line of the MTR. (Red and Blue lines) The Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay is directly opposite an entrance to the Causeway Bay station, however the station itself is very large and reaching the platform requires 15-20 minutes of walking from the Times Square entrance. I found it quicker and more pleasant to walk to the F1 exit at the end of Jardine’s Bazaar.
The Causeway Bay area is great for visitors of all types and convenient to the rest of the city. This hotel is right in the heart of the neighborhood.
Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay Property
This hotel is a downtown skyscraper. There are several restaurants within the property in addition to the breakfast area. A “set breakfast” is provided for guests. You can choose from among four options and either coffee or tea. The breakfast is all around pretty bad and I only tried it once in a five day stay.

They call it a mini-gym and they are not lying. It’s two treadmills and a bike. However this is a very crowded urban area and runners may find it more convenient than running on the streets or in the heat of Victoria Park.
This hotel also features a room with coin laundry. It is worth booking for that alone. Very convenient on overseas trips. At check-in I received my welcome amenities and a high floor room. I was also given late check out at the time of check in without asking. So they are pretty good about sticking to the One Rewards program.
Holiday Inn Express Causeway Bay Guest Rooms
In the US this would be considered a ‘normal’ or ‘no-frills’ room. But in Hong Kong where space is at a premium and many apartments and hotel rooms are very small this room feels almost like a cozy studio apartment. For the $100 USD and below range you’re not going to get much better than this in terms of space and comfort. Getting a couch and a full desk without booking a suite is a total win.
The shower was not the best in my room. handle-type showerhead would not stay in place. Also the door can’t open completely. It hits the sink. But good pressure and good hot water. Bathroom is really not bad overall.

Housekeeping was very regular each day and 2-3 cans of drinking water were provided each day. I particularly liked the desk lamp which can charge a phone wirelessly. More hotels should have adopted that feature by now.
About Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay is very similar to Central and Tsim Sha Tsui (pronounced Tim Sa Choi) in character. Lots of hotels, restaurants and high-end shopping. There are several large shopping malls right outside the Holiday inn Express Causeway Bay. As far as food: there’s everything from street fare to fine dining with skyline views and it’s all amazing. There are even some nice spots for westerners like Belgos and Frites nearby. Hell, you can eat at Outback Steakhouse or KFC if you’re really feeling homesick.
In a city with surprisingly few bars there are a number of chill neighborhood places and happy hour spots that focus more on beverages than food very close to the hotel. For more of a nightlife vibe Wan Chai and LKF are just one or three subway stops away. Causeway Bay does become very quiet after 11:00 pm.
Bottom Line
Causeway Bay is a great choice for a shorter stay of a few days. But for the amount of time I am spending/will spend in Hong Kong I think a more neighborhood feel like you get on the Kowloon Side is preferable.
But if staying in Causeway Bay is a must this hotel is kind of a no-brainer. Fantastic value for very little money in an often-expensive city. I’ll definitely be back again and recommend you can book with confidence.
