Sometimes when searching for hotels you can tell pretty easily what’s going to be bad. You also know that if you’re spending above a certain level the room is going to be very nice. But some hotels, like the Comfort Inn Deerfield Beach live in that grey area, where you won’t know if the place is decent or not until you find yourself standing in the room. Let’s go stand in the room.

I booked this hotel for Wed-Thu June 18-19 as part of a longer stay in South Florida.
These two nights had an average rate of $106.30 after taxes. The hotel also charges $15 a night for parking, which is pretty reasonable at the beach. Comfort Inn Deerfield Beach has an Expedia rating of 6.8. Check the Expedia rates for your dates.
I chose this hotel to take advantage of a Choice Hotels promotion that awards 5000 bonus points after every 2 stays. More at this link about earning points quickly and maximizing hotel promotions.
Comfort Inn Deerfield Beach Location
Although it has Oceanside in its name, the Comfort Inn Oceanside Deerfield Beach is not on the beach. It’s one block off on A1A. A parking lot and a small condo building sit between the hotel and beach. So keep that in mind if you’re considering an ocean view room. The view won’t be 100% direct.
Other than that it’s a pretty good location. Deerfield is a nice beach and the hotel is right next to the small commercial area made up of what shops and restaurants are here.
Downtown Boca Raton is just a few minutes away by car and if you’re traveling without a car the Brightline train station is a short Uber from the hotel.
Comfort Inn Deerfield Beach Property
The hotel is clearly showing its age and the overall vibe is a little sad. It gave the impression of being mostly empty, without many other guests around and very few cars in the parking lot throughout my stay. I don’t typically ask for upgrades or care too much but as a diamond elite member it’s a little annoying not to receive an upgrade in a mostly-empty hotel.
The pool is fairly nice here but it’s in direct sunlight all day. The sub shop restaurant is kind of a ghost town and the free breakfast was pretty subpar. Coffee was decent though. The gym is just 3 pieces of equipment in a very small space and the A/C was not working when I went in.
The wear and age in the hallway carpets and lobby welcome mats really stands out. These should have been replaced years ago. Some of the ice machines were out of order, presumably for years. Other than that they do a fair job of maintenance here and there aren’t any deficiencies in the walls, doors, or public areas.
Comfort Inn Deerfield Beach Guest Rooms
The good maintenance carries through into the rooms, which are basic and dated but in good shape overall. The only area I noticed real wear and tear was on the refrigerator. Like many Choice properties they only do room cleaning by request but the room was quite clean at check in.
The bathroom seemed to have been updated more recently than the rest of the room and it was fine with no problems. Bed was very comfortable with nice pillows. Having a wet bar and snack storage area is an awesome bonus.
The TV struggled with signal on several channels, which is disappointing. The chair is not comfortable to sit in for more than a few minutes, but the desk chair is quite comfortable. You’ll need to baffle the air conditioner with a towel though, as the seating area is right on top of it.
About Deerfield Beach
This is one of the smaller cities on the Florida coast. Most of the beach area is taken up with small independent hotels and motels, as well as condos and apartments. It has a little bit of an island feeling being separated from the much ritzier Boca by an inlet. It’s quiet and old-school here, a little reminiscent of the Delaware beaches.
There’s a fishing pier here very close to the hotel, however it’s undergoing renovations at the time of writing with no reopening date specified.
There are additional shops and restaurants just across the ICW that can be reached on foot. Deerfield is in Broward County but it feels much more connected to Palm Beach County and Boca.

Bottom Line
The hotel is decent. $106 to stay next to the beach is good value and you shouldn’t expect too much at that price. It’s usually more expensive than that. Unfortunately it’s easy to see why it’s pretty empty because it’s definitely not worth more than $110.
If not for collecting a ton of bonus points I’d really have no reason to stay here. I also can’t recommend choosing this hotel for a points redemption. If you’re flush with Choice Points the Cambria on Lauderdale Beach is definitely the way to go.
There are so many little indie hotels right next door, and most of them are less expensive. Hop on Expedia and book one of those instead if you want to stay at Deerfield Beach.
