In many Asian cities Western travelers are happy to find hotel room rates that are well below what we’re used to in the US. While Singapore is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in Asia, it is unfortunately the most expensive in which to book a hotel room. Being an international center of business and tourism means that room rates here are positively Manhattanesque, and finding a room under $200 per night might be considered a steal. Rooms at the Hotel Mi Singapore are well below two bills, and in my opinion are a steal indeed. Check current prices at Expedia.

Hotel Mi Singapore Location
If you’re trying to select a hotel in Singapore one thing you should know is that there is virtually no such thing as a bad location. It is a model city without a slum or bad area to be found anywhere. Even the lowest priced and most questionable hotels you find in an online search will prove to be bright and charming in person. They’ll be located on blocks that are clean, safe, and easy to navigate.
Bencoolen is home to several hotels which are right on top of a Blue Line MRT station. Hotel Mi is often the least expensive on a web search but the nearby Ibis, the Hotel G and Grand Pacific are similar hotels all priced within a few dollars of each other.
Hotel Mi Singapore is located on a street that could be described as an urbanist’s dream. It is fully designed from one sidewalk to the other with pedestrians in mind. The street features amenities like bicycle racks, bench seating, taxi stands and integrated landscape design. The Bras Basah station of the Orange Line is also a very short walk away. There are several convenience stores in the area as well as some restaurants which stay open late into the night. The Food Dynasty food court is popular with locals and visitors alike and features fast casual dishes from every part of Asia. Overall this location is excellent and very central.
Hotel Mi Singapore Property
This is not a large hotel. The lobby is bright and very stylishly decorated, almost to the point of Wes Anderson twee. It is not a small space but it can fill up quickly during the times when guests are most likely to be checking in or out.
The fitness center here is very small. It appears to be useable but just enough to say you got your workout in for the day. After a few nights’ stay you’ll be glad to get back to your home setup. But there are extra water bottles in the gym. Grab a few bottles to stock your fridge if the two per day provided are not enough.
The pool area is pretty nice here but it sits at the bottom of a courtyard with nearly every room in the house overlooking it. The pool doesn’t receive much sun. While Singapore is on the Equator it’s not generally a fun-in-the-sun destination. The use of a pool is going to be low on most guests’ list of priorities.
Hotel Mi Singapore Guest Rooms
Much like an Ibis Hotel, the rooms at Hotel Mi Singapore rely on some clever design touches to maximize the limited space available. Rooms feature large windows, colorful artwork and finishes, and a bathroom that felt as if it were full size and not cutting corners. The bed is comfortable. Touches like phone charging and lamps at the nightstand are appreciated.
The TV featured a decent selection of channels in English and an actual desk and working fridge round out everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Overall Impression
I paid something like $135 USD per night for the nights I stayed which qualifies as a bargain in Singapore. I loved the location and didn’t have any complaints at all during my stay. Book a refundable rate online and stay with confidence.
