If you’re looking to book a South Florida hotel you probably want to stay at the beach. But what if you don’t? Or what if the beachfront is out of your price range? Where should you stay then? At the Hampton Inn Plantation by Hilton?
Maybe so! Let’s have a look.

My first visit here was a four night stay Monday to Thursday in a standard nonsmoking king room with a sofabed.
I was able to reserve this room for $129.26 on short notice. That’s pretty good for this hotel, which runs from about $125 up to $200 a night. Legal max rate is $500. The Hampton Inn Plantation currently has a rating of 7.8 on Expedia with over 1000 reviews. Check the Expedia rates for your dates.
I chose this hotel because I’m four nights away from a 10,000 point milestone bonus. This stay will earn a total of about 23,000 points altogether. For more on maximizing point promos check out this post on the topic. This stay will also trigger the quarterly $50 credit on my Hilton Surpass card, which recently earned me 200k points in two weeks.
It also happened to be the cheapest Hilton property for these dates, which is not always the case.
Hampton Inn Plantation Location
The Hampton Inn Plantation is definitely suitable for staying before or after a cruise and is close enough to the airport to be an attractive proposition for flights. You’ll need an Uber though. There’s no shuttle here.

If you’re commuting into Miami during your stay you can easily take the “back door” via I-75 and bypass 95 traffic.
Hampton Inn Plantation Property
Not much to say about the property overall. It’s in good shape. It’s a standard garden type hotel. Plenty of free parking. Free breakfast until 10:00.
The gym, pool and business center are all pretty impressive for this class of property. The business center is its own little office. There are conference rooms on site as well.
The fitness center is large with a good selection of equipment and extras like towels, water cooler, scale and TV. Pool loungers are nice and the landscaping around the decks is definitely tropical. I particularly like the solid block wall that completely surrounds the pool area. It gives it a more upscale vibe than simply looking at the parking lot while you swim as you would at a motel.
Hampton Inn Plantation Guest Rooms
Rooms at the Hampton Inn Plantation are large and nicely furnished. I prefer a sofa to a chaise lounge or armchair and the sofas here fold out to a double bed. If you’re coming for a cruise as a family of three or four this room should be suitable and accommodate everyone.
If you need more space they have connecting rooms available to book as well. This hotel only services the rooms every other day. As you can see in the photo the pillows are a bit small for the bed but they’re comfortable enough.

There are a couple of quirks in this room. It has two desks, but only one desk chair. I suppose it’s possible to borrow a second chair. Two desks is kind of nice because you can eat at one while leaving the other set up to work. The room has a large drapery over the exterior wall, but it doesn’t draw closed to cover the window. It would cover the air conditioner if it did. There’s only a thin translucent curtain to cover the window. Not a real issue for me.
About Plantation
Plantation is basically the same as Fort Lauderdale. The only distinctions have to do with local government and aren’t noticeable to a visitor. You just get on Broward Boulevard and zip to the beach.
It’s an upscale suburb and a growing area. There are a number of hotels here. There’s also plenty of golf courses if that’s your thing.
The area is home to the Broward Mall and the Fountain Shops development. If you’re in a hotel the area is surprisingly walkable because the hotels are all adjacent to the commercial areas. So even though the locals are zipping around in Audis and Benzes walking is fairly pleasant here. I prefer Plantation to Tamarac, Sunrise and most of the western towns.
Bottom Line
This is a good hotel. I’d even rate it above most of the other Hampton Inns.
If the rates look good for your dates lock them in now and enjoy your stay.
