Let me guess… You’re looking for a hotel in South Florida but prices are high for your dates. You’re taking a hard look at all the cheapest options, reading reviews and they’re all bad. You wonder which Wyndham property will be least-awful. You think the La Quinta Plantation 6th Street might be the answer.
But it’s almost indistinguishable from all the other La Quintas, Days Inns and everything else on that level. Let’s take a closer look to see if this property is worth arriving at.

I booked the La Quinta Plantation 6th Street for three nights from December 5-8 2024. Thu-Sat.
Booking price near the last minute was $112.01 per night on a weekend when prices were generally high in the area. This is a good rate to pay anytime and especially when prices are elevated for Art Basel. The hotel has an Expedia rating of 7.6. Check the Expedia rates for your dates.
I chose this hotel on price and also because I had a targeted offer for Wyndham bonus points. For more on maximizing hotel promotions check out this post.
La Quinta Plantation 6th Street Location
The La Quinta Plantation is definitely suitable for staying before or after a cruise and is close enough to the airport to be an attractive proposition for flights. Youโll need an Uber though. Thereโs no shuttle here.

La Quinta Plantation 6th Street Property
When you come into the front door here you notice that it’s covered with about 74 coats of white paint. They go a little crazy here with the touch up paint. Maintenance was roaming the halls touching up various surfaces during my stay. Some of these would be better off being replaced.
Still, the property is not in bad shape overall. It was certainly clean enough throughout my time there. The pool is decent and the gym is pretty minimal.
My biggest complaint is that this is a free breakfast property but the breakfast isn’t good. They were out of coffee for a full hour the only morning I tried to get some. The hotel’s only ice machine for four floors was prone to run to empty as well.
La Quinta Plantation 6th Street Guest Rooms
The rooms here are fine. They’re nothing special but perfectly adequate. Some wear and tear but not an undue amount. Having a fold out sofa that seats two is a valuable feature in a low budget room.
The particular room I was assigned was right off the lobby, which I hated. You can hear people in the lobby particularly in the morning. I had to keep the curtains closed because the window looked directly into the lobby window.

Overall the rooms are good though. No reason to avoid this hotel.
About Plantation
Plantation is basically the same as Fort Lauderdale. The only distinctions have to do with local government and aren’t noticeable to a visitor. You just get on Broward Boulevard and zip to the beach.
It’s an upscale suburb and a growing area. There are a number of hotels here. There’s also plenty of golf courses if that’s your thing.
The area is home to the Broward Mall and the Fountain Shops development. If you’re in a hotel the area is surprisingly walkable because the hotels are all adjacent to the commercial areas. So even though the locals are zipping around in Audis and Benzes walking is fairly pleasant here. I prefer Plantation to Tamarac, Sunrise and most of the western towns.
Bottom Line
This La Quinta is directly next door to a Hampton Inn that I reviewed previously. It’s interesting to see these hotels side by side, particularly since this location isn’t directly near an airport or interstate. It’s easy to see why a Hampton always costs more. They don’t run out of ice and coffee there. They don’t use toilet paper so thin you can see through it. The sofa is far, far nicer and comes with throw pillows and an ottoman. The pool and gym are much better.
That said, I did prefer this hotel and location over the La Quintas in Cypress Creek and Tamarac. I’d stay here again if all the Hilton properties increased rates well above budget. If the price is looking good now, go ahead and book it.
