Unlike many of its counterparts in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong is not a city where Western visitors will find great bargains when traveling. The Ramada Hong Kong Grand (check prices on Expedia) costs as much per night as four nights in Phuket for example. But at around $75 a night it is less expensive than most alternatives in Hong Kong.

Ramada Hong Kong Grand Location
The location of this hotel is very good. It is situated between the Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan areas, and is an easy walk to either of those MTR stations. While Jordan is closer, many guests will enjoy walking south into TST to check out the endless array of shopping options there. It’s just a couple blocks east of Nathan road, along Austin Road. The hotel definitely has a downtown vibe to it with lots of restaurants and businesses nearby. It is almost dead center of the peninsula and very easy to reach the island by train. So it is hard to imagine a better location or that anyone would be unhappy with where this hotel is.
Ramada Hong Kong Grand Property
For a hotel of its size the Ramada Hong Kong Grand is low on amenities. The lobby is not much to speak of and the breakfast area is pretty pedestrian, although I did quite enjoy the artwork that was hanging in there. The breakfast itself was pretty bad. If your buffet is not more enticing than a banana and a muffin in bed would be I’m not going to bother eating it a second time, even if it is free.
During my stay the breakfast was meant to be free, due to Wyndham running a promotion in which guests were to receive a $100 credit to use on property during the stay when booking 3 or more nights. This hotel has so little to offer that breakfast is literally the only way to spend that credit. So I had one $100 breakfast. And I had to argue for it. The staff is not very familiar with the Wyndham Rewards program.
Ramada Hong Kong Grand Guest Rooms
I received a room on the top floor. I am not sure if this is because I hold status in the Wyndham Rewards program or just by chance. Being 29 floors up the room does have a pretty nice view, but it can’t be considered an upgrade from a basic room because it is as basic as it gets.
This room is small. I think that like NYC, many Hong Kong hotel rooms are small and there isn’t much you can do about it. But this room is tiny. About 100 square feet plus the tiny bathroom. The sink doesn’t even fit in the bathroom. It is just out by the door. There is no room for a dresser or closet. For some reason each room comes with a dehumidifier or air purifier device. Many guests place these in the hallway because they are not necessary and only take up precious real estate inside the room.
The room is not even small in the well-designed way an Ibis Hotel room is. it’s just tiny. It is definitely only suitable for a single guest. No matter how well you get along with your partner both of you and your luggage will not fit easily in this room.
You might think that with such small rooms they would try to nail it with the bed, but that is not the case. The bed is smaller than a queen and is pretty stiff and not very comfortable. Pillows are merely adequate. I am 6’0″ and my feet were hanging all the way off the bed.
Overall Impression
While the Ramada Hong Kong Grand is better located and decorated than the typical Ramada location in the US, it is not as comfortable a stay. On top of the promotion mentioned above this stay was also eligible for a promotion in which Wyndham Rewards members receive 15,000 bonus points when staying 3+ nights. It is noticeable that none of the Wyndham hotels in Hong Kong show award availability at any time, which is frustrating because it is not as if these are luxurious resorts that members are flocking to. It is certainly property owners playing games against the rules of the program.
This hotel will continue to draw visitors due to its very good location and competitive rates. If you want to stay for those reasons I will not dissuade you. I actually returned to this hotel for a second stay in 2024 and was upgraded to a larger room with two beds. While the bed in that room was much too stiff, the stay overall was good and the location is particularly good.
